Students Estelle Hulse (18), Jake Lownds (18), Callam Swinton (18) and Ella Mayo (17) are headed to the Worldskills finals in Birmingham in November 2017. After making it through 3 difficult rounds of the competition the dynamic quartet are ready for their next challenge.

Quarterfinals: The students were selected from thousands of hopeful teams after they produced an outstanding Music video and production folder for the competition quarterfinal.

Working within a very tight deadline the students had to conceptualise and produce a music video for an 80’s pop song. After much deliberation the students selected “Do you love me” by The Contours”

They produced a multi-stranded narrative Music Video with a cast of over 30 people, which was shot and edited over a period of 2 weeks. This was then submitted with a substantial folder of planning and production work to see them through to the next round!

The semi-finals:  Competed in Leicestershire on Thursday 15th June, the students had to deliver a 5 minute pitch to a panel of industry specialist judges and complete a live brief, given on the day.

After a 6am start at Macclesfield train station, the students didn’t waste any time rehearsing their pitch and preparing for the semi-finals. They were well dressed, professional and most importantly eager and ready to win.

The live heat tasked the dream team to write a creative piece of voice over to accompany their music video with a specified theme; They had just 2 hours to do this.

After finishing their task and pitching to the judges the students felt confident they had done their best and were ready for home. After a long and nervous wait the team were delighted when they heard they had made the finals of the competition.

Finals: The young team are now destined for a 5 day residential competition in Birmingham, hopeful that they will be selected as the best the in UK. Watch this space!
